The United Kingdom’s Nicolas Tye Architects designed this amazing rustic barn to house conversion in a Bedfordshire village, with rolling hills covered by a blanket of forest as far as the eye can see. With a respect for these natural surroundings, the architect created a look that blends seamlessly with the outdoors while staying true to his own modern and elegant architectural vision. This warm and welcoming rustic style barn-conversion to house features 2,200 sq. ft. of living space, all wrapped in an amazing shell of wood barn board and glass. The unique farmhouse style is enclosed in frameless 3.2m-high glazed panels, bringing the wonderful vies into every room. Nature further makes its way into the glass wall house with the use of natural materials. “Harping back to the adjacent barn building’s history, the new studio utilizes cor-ten detailing, further enhancing the sense of place, reflecting the old and discarded agricultural machinery and steelwork,” according to the architect. To help keep the environment in tact, this barn house includes a number of sustainable technologies, making an eco house design with rainwater recycling, a wind turbine, low-energy lighting, organic paints and non-toxic chemical sealers. Nicolas Tye Architects

A winding maze of sculptural granite and glass, this modern zen house by Spanish architects A-cero makes a unique statement within its lush surroundings. Located in Pozuelo de Alarcon in Madrid, Spain, this futuristic home design features a facade of curved walls of stone dark granite and marble travertine, providing privacy as well as a dramatic welcome. A water feature flows from outside to the entry, creating a seamless transition to the interior environment. The house is situated on a slope, inclined toward a lake, allowing for an upper and a lower terrace for outdoor living and entertaining. Inside, the house is divided into upper and lower levels. An upstairs hall, lined with skylights, leads to the essence of luxury living – a spacious kitchen, wine vault, dining room, lounge and library; and continues deeper into the home’s private living spaces – the master bedroom, dressing area, bathroom, an indoor swimming pool and a gym. A set of stairs leads you downstairs to the lower level, where you’ll find the games room, home theater, kids’ and guests bedrooms, and a service area. Every room features glass walls, tinted for privacy and aesthetic interest. Adding to the home’s futuristic appeal, this high-tech zen design is computerized, putting computerized lighting, safety, blinds and air conditioning controls at the owners’ fingertips. A-cero Architects

classic-contemporary-interior-design-inspirations-pellegrini-1.jpg

This classic contemporary interior design by Pietro Carlo Pellegrini brings new life (and love!) to an old attic of a historic building located in Lucca, Italy. An urban-style living room is occupied by two chic sofas – a regal blue “Mex Cube Sofa” by designer Piero Lissoni and the crisp, white Philippe Starck “Private” sofa – facing the piece de resistance, a black Bisazza mosaic wall dubbed Napoleon, designed by Carlo Dal Bianco. (Love the white Cactus sculpture by Gufram!) Light oak floors and an exposed-beam white-painted ceiling lend the space a Nordic style. Through deceivingly small windows, natural light filters through gauzy white curtains and floods this large space. The kitchen is enclosed behind an ultra-modern folding glass wall. White cabinets line the remaining walls and at the center, a black table-style island provides prep space, a cooktop and eating area. An intriguing blue-lit hallway leads you from the living and dining areas to the bedrooms. The master suite is a dreamy space furnished with a cool, white LIPL bed by Jean Marie Massaud and Cloud end tables by Piero Lissoni. The ensuite bathroom, also a black Bisazza masterpiece, is accessorized by an unusual mirror hovering over a chic Bull stone sink by Antonio Luppi. Inspirations via At Casa

luxury-interior-design-ideas-marcel-wanders-1.jpg

On the island paradise of Majorca, Spain, Casa Son Vida is a luxury villa that’s a little piece of heaven in itself. The modern architecture of the building by tecARCHITECTURE, described by At Casa as a “triumph of straight lines and rounded surfaces,” became a source of ideas for the luxury interiors – a stunning interior design byMarcel Wanders that "mixes old and new, distorts sizes, and enhances the contrast". The signature style of this Dutch designer shines through in every piece of furniture, artfully designed and composed for a dramatic whole.

luxury-interior-design-ideas-marcel-wanders-2.jpg

The Topiary collection is reminiscent of a mushroom in shape, lending these sofas designed for Cappelini and Moooi a modern-natural and whimsical appeal. The New Antiques table by Cappellini is a sculptural centerpiece, complemented by the Couples pillows, designed for B&B Italy and tossed haphazardly in the center of the room.

The dining area is a sophisticated palette of black and grey on a clean, white backdrop. The black chandelier by Baccarat hangs dramatically over the carved table and chairs, created by Wanders for Moooi.

Continuing into a gilded retreat, the floral and gold Bisazza mosaic tiles by Wanders melt into the luxurious white Carrara marble floor. The Dream bed by Poliform, and the Ken stool by Quodes are cool creations by Wanders that elevate this sleeping and bathing area to dream-come-true status.

A second bedroom, also featuring the Dream bed by Poliform finished in Jester fabrics, is accented by Bisazza mosaic tile and the striking Paris mirror, designed by Wanders for Quodes. Rounding out this simple but stylish space are a Moooi carpet, lamps and bedside table.

Described by Australian architect Dane Richardson as “sophistication and elegance on the beach,” this modern waterfront home is making some waves in Dunsborough, Western Australia. Refining traditional beach-hut architecture, this stunning timber home is framed and clad in wood with extensive glazing which connects it to nature while giving it a cool, contemporary edge. The home’s northern facade is a full glass wall, which floods interiors with natural light and creates a direct connection to the waterfront. Even within the confines of the house, you can’t escape this wonderful sense of the outdoors. Earthy materials like honed concrete, blue stone, timber tiles and white mosaic floors personify nature refined. Cantilevered living and sleeping areas and a balcony create the illusion of floating within these lush surroundings. Obviously, respect for the environment was a key consideration in this natural house design, which incorporates sustainable features like high and low thermal mass materials, low-VOC paints and finishes, low-emission glass, a grey-water recycling system, electronic window blinds to curb unwanted heat loss and gain, solar water heating, insulated ceilings and walls, rainwater collection and low-emission cabinet. Dane Design Australia

When Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects took to creating this stunning timber wood Home in Glenbrook, Nevada, it was “wooded” bliss from the start. Located on the eastern edge of Lake Tahoe, this timber home is even surrounded by tall pine and fir trees. At the foot of a wooded hill rising in the background, the main house and guest house sit on a tree-sheltered courtyard, peacefully protected and private in its natural setting. This country home facade boasts log columns, cedar shingles and a zinc roof, which the architects explain, help the home blend with its surrounding landscape. The forest house was designed as a social spot for gathering family and friends, and its interiors reflect that communal atmosphere. An open concept family room is a grand two-storey space, finished in wood from floor to ceiling. Large windows offer endless views of the outdoors. Stylish and sustainable materials include reclaimed oak floors and recycled-glass countertops in the kitchen.Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects.

With a modern simplicity about it, this contemporary riverfront architecture designed by Portugal-based firm Correia/Ragazzi Aquitectos, is as noted for its design as it is for its view. The award-winning Casa no Geres house design, located in Peneda-Geras National Park in northern Portugal, is part concealed within the hillside, and part precariously cantilevered out over the Cevado River rushing below. The clients gave architect Gracia Correia and her new Italian partner, Roberto Ragazzi, carte blanche to design the riverfront home on its 5,000m2 site, with only two strict criteria – that no trees would be cut in the home’s execution, and that it would be made of concrete. From the outside, the resulting 60m2 house is simple, almost utilitarian, with few frills. Inside is another story, where an open concept layout and stylish simplicity complements the real star of the show – the view! Glass walls on either side of the structure invite nature in, while a living area at the end of the home concludes the program with a glazed wall framing views of the river valley. Correia/Ragazzi Aquitectos

Slovenian architecture firm Superform, known for their progressive architecture, furniture and interior design, has delivered on all these expectations (and then some!) with a progressive timber home design in the town of Ljubno ob Savinji, about 70 kilometers from Slovenia’s capital of Ljubljana. A combination of two houses, this unusual house separates the living and socializing areas in two very different buildings, each designed to respond to its specific purpose. Tending toward the more traditional side, a timber and stone structure is occupied by the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen in a massive, monolith of a house characterized by its private design; wood-clad with windows shuttered for privacy from the outdoors. The home’s social spaces can be found in its second, boat-like structure made of glass, steel, Rheinzink and wood. Here, the living room, dining room and a large hall invite the outdoors in through an expansive glass wall, sliding open to the patio overlooking the pool. Superform
